In 1977 Burne Hogarth, then President of the National Cartoonists Society, approached me to publish the NATIONAL CARTOONISTS SOCIETY PORTFOLIO OF FINE COMIC ART.  Over 30 artists were contacted during the year and 23 artists were represented in the Portfolio.  Each artist drew a brand new illustration just for the Portfolio and signed and numbered each Plate for each of the 1500 Portfolios.  Due to slowness on the part of several of the artists the Portfolio was released in Volume One with Hal Foster (Special stamped and numbered), Will Eisner, Johnny Hart, Barry Windsor-Smith, Jerry Robinson, Wally Wood, Milton Caniff, Harvey Kurtzman, John Severin, Russell Myers, Jim Steranko, Jack Kirby, Jeffrey Jones, Al Williamson and Burne Hogarth (all hand signed and numbered by the artists) and then Volume Two followed later with signed and numbered Plates by Michael Kaluta, George Evans, Berni Wrightson, Jack Davis, Gil Kane, Walt and Selby Kelly (signed and numbered only by Selby) and Neal Adams (signed and numbered only in the first 25, the rest are signed only).  In addition to help make the Portfolio special for the early subscribers who had a wait of several years there are the Volume Three bonus Plates by Hal Foster (he hand colored his Plate from V1), Wally Wood, Burne Hogarth, Al Williamson, Will Eisner, Harvey Kurtzman and Frank Frazetta (full color rough for the Clint Eastwood movie poster for THE GAUNTLET).

Printed with the best quality lithography available at the time on acid free Strathmore art paper these Plates look like the original art when matted and framed.   They are in MINT condition, never having been opened since they were sealed in 1980.
