Description

Welcome to Andy's Yard Sale!

This auction is for a nice "The Spirit" sunday comic section.   This comic was published by Will Eisner for the Register & Tribune Syndicate and is dated August 11, 1940.   The Spirit began publication on June 2, 1940 which would make this the 11th book in a long-running series that lasted until 1952.

The Spirit has been recognized as one of the true masterpieces of the comic medium.  Denny Colt is The Spirit,  a two-fisted crime-fighter who pits himself against many colorful criminals and femme fatales.  Will Eisner used the Spirit to let his wonderful imagination run wild.  The series would explore the topics of psychology, mythology,  and the supernatural.  Stories of action, whimsy, and surprise would be in the sunday newspaper every week.

This section is comic-book size (approx 7 1/2" x 10") and is 16 pages long.  The Spirit story occupies the first seven pages, followed by a 4-page Lady Luck story by Dick French & Chuck Mazoujian, and a 5-page Mr. Mystic by Eisner & Bob Powell.  I have graded the condition of this book at VeryGood(VG).  There is a significant tear in the center-margin and some minor chipping on the lower-right of the cover.   Otherwise it is nice, supple paper with bright colors and good print registration.  (see pics provided).

I can/will combine shipping on multiple auction victories. I am quoting USPS 1st-Class shipping for this item. Comic Books or parts of a newspaper do not legally qualify for Media Mail shipping.
