For sale in this auction is one of the holy grails of comic book collecting! In this auction you are bidding on Superman 1 CGC 8.5 VF+ (1939) with light tan pages. Superman 1 is currently the 3rd most valuable comic book in the world behind Action 1 & Detective 27, with a VF+ guide value of $293,750. (And a n actual unrestored 8.5 would easily sell for over $1,000,000 in today's environment.) In fact, the only thing stopping this particular copy from selling for over $1,000,000 is the fact that it has been professionally restored! This comic being auctioned off is the second highest graded copy of Superman #1 that has ever been certified by CGC. Superman #1 is notorious for being difficult to find in nice shape and is very possibly the most difficult of all the mega-keys to find in VF or better condition. To date, no unrestored copies have ever graded higher than VF, and only one restored copy has ever graded slightly higher than this one at 9.0. (And that copy is locked away in a private collection and will probably not be sold any time soon!)
