Description

About the item:

This stunning original piece of art features, according to the best of Wrightson's memory and belief, a preliminary House of Mystery or House of Secrets cover that ultimately went unused. Featuring two climbers as they come across a terrible appertain in the lonely mountain pass, the piece is done in pencil and measures 12 by 17 inches. It is in excellent and undisplayed condition and will be shipped with the utmost care. Please note- this is an actual, original piece of art illustrated by hand by Bernie Wrightson. It is not a copy, print or pre-printed image. It is a one-of-a-kind original.

About Bernie Wrightson:

Acknowledged as the Master of the Macabre, no other name in comics conjures up more images of the horrifying than that of the legendary Bernie Wrightson (1948 – ). Inspired after meeting Frank Frazetta at a New York Comic convention, Wrightson soon submitted his work to Dick Giordano at DC Comics and was quickly given a freelance assignment. His first published comics work, “The Man who Murdered Himself,” appeared in House of Mystery #179 in 1969. Wrightson would go on to produce numerous stories and covers for that classic horror series as well as its sister title, House of Secrets. He also drew The Shadow, Weird Mystery Tales, JLA: The Weird, Batman: The Cult, Batman/Aliens and, of course, Swamp Thing. He has also drawn both Chamber of Darkness and Tower of Shadows for Marvel. Most recently, Wrightson’s work has graced the pages of Dead, She Said and Doc Macabre. While Wrightson’s comic work alone has cemented his reputation as the aforementioned Master of the Macabre, he has also produced numerous illustrations for Hollywood and adapted several horror novel classics – including many works of Edgar Allan Poe – into graphic form. He is, however, perhaps best known for his stunning adaptation of Mary Shelly’s classic horror novel, Frankenstein, a project on which he spent seven years drawing fifty meticulous scenes from the novel. To his fans delight, he recently revisited the Monster in IDW’s Frankenstein Alive, Alive! series with writer Steve Niles.

Terms, International Bidder Information & Provenance Guarantee:

~ Terms:

~ We are happy to combine shipping on domestic or international shipments. Please inquire for full details.

~ If you purchase more than one item, please wait for the combined invoice before making payment.

~ We package items extremely securely.

~ Once an item is won and the auction is over, the purchase cannot be cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

~ If you are and international bidder:

All international packages ship vie Priority (if less than $250, including shipping) or Express (if more than $250, including shipping). I cannot falsify customs forms by declaring a lower value than the final bid price realized. Also, please be aware per eBay policy you are responsible for any such fees, duties, taxes, etc. your government may impose upon you before they will release the package to you. It is the responsibility of the bidder to determine what their customs fees, duties, or taxes may be.  Please be aware that with international packages, USPS may sometimes release the package to a local carrier for the final delivery of the item to the buyer.  If that is the case it is the responsibility of the buyer to, if necessary, make arrangements for the delivery of the package, for it to be signed for upon delivery, provide instructions to the carrier where to leave the package, etc.

~Certificate of Authenticity/Provenance:

In order to stay ahead of the collectables market curve and offer the security and piece of mind that a mere paper COA does not and cannot provide, empire.auctions offers certification through Collectors Proof.  As always, all autographed items I sell were personally witnessed - by myself - being signed by the artist, writer, creator or celebrity in question. No third-party is involved. Further, art sketches - and most published pieces of original artwork I sell - were obtained directly from the artists themselves.

In order to provide this guarantee to buyers - and especially those who desire said guarantee in written form, after the auction ends and payment has been received, the item information will, upon request, be uploaded to Collectors Proof.  Once uploaded, it will generate and assign the item a digital (and permanent) alpha-numeric code ("signature") linked to the primary auction photo as well as a snapshot of the complete ended eBay auction screen (offering a level of authentication and piece of mind that a mere printed certificate with an easily forged signature cannot).  Once the item has an entry on Collectors Proof the "title" of the item can then be transferred from one member (Empire Auctions) to another (the high bidder).  Not only is this a record of the guarantee of the authenticity of the item, traceable back to its original source, but it also maintains a permanent web-based record of ownership accessible from any computer with internet access.  It also allows the current owner to print out a hardcopy of a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), if desired, but without the need of actually having to protect physical paper certificates from loss or possible destruction as the documentation is permanently maintained and available online.

Please note that this service is not available for items already independently verified for authenticity (such as CGC Signature Series Comics or pack-pulled signature cards), items that come with independent provenance from another source (which, if that is the case, will be noted in the auction description above) or items that are not in need of any authentication (such as collectibles that are not signed, or are not original artwork, etc). It is also not available for items that sell for any amount less than $49.99 (though, if desired, for a $3.00 processing fee per item, the provenance through Collectors Proof can be included).  Please note- the request for Collectors Proof should be made before payment is sent as it will be added to the eBay invoice.  If the service is requested after payment is made, the processing fee becomes $4. At $49.99 or higher, the provenance through Collectors Proof is included free of charge upon request. Please note- the guarantee that I sell only signatures I personally witnessed the signer in question autograph is real regardless of whether or not you opt for the authentication service through Collectors Proof.
