——Description of This Auction——

Having all of my comics professionally graded by CGC would cost a fortune and take forever, so I only have gotten my most valuable books graded. I have been collecting comics for more than 40 years -- buying most of them when they were brand new, reading them once and putting them in bags.

My grading scale includes Near Mint (looks like it was just bought, any flaws are extremely minor), Very Fine (almost Near Mint, but just misses), Very Good (shows evidence of handling and has notable flaws but none are disastrously awful), Good (more flawed, still a solid book for reading but that's about it), Fair (big problems) and Poor (horrible condition, trash it after reading it).

These are issues 178 and 179 of the Marvel Comics series STRANGE TALES, both featuring the character Warlock, both written and drawn by the great Jim Starlin. Although issue 178 is in Very Fine condition (only tiny flaws, see below) and looks new, issue 179 is only in Fair condition due to many, many impressions on its cover. More details:

STRANGE TALES issue # 178, February 1975, in Very Fine condition. There is one very minor top-edge indent, some tiny stress indents at spine that nobody else would bother to mention, and some very minor edgewear on the back cover's top and left edges. I'm making this book sound much worse than any sane human being will think it is, but I would rather any surprises be in YOUR favor!

STRANGE TALES issue # 179, April 1975, in only FAIR condition. That's "Fair" as in only one step above "Poor," because the cover of this book shows so many impressions it looks like somebody slept on top of it and rolled back and forth a lot. The inside is in great shape and very readable. I have no idea how the cover can be more beat up than the inside, but the interior pages seem to have escaped getting crumpled. Make no mistake, however: The cover is the exact opposite of "flat," and also is pulling away from the staples. You can't get a good idea of how beat up the covers (front and back) are in the photos, but trust me, this copy is no prize-winner. Sorry!
