A careless mistake by a group of young heroes is the impetus for one of the most important company-wide events Marvel has ever attempted. When the New Warriors take on super-villains way out of their league for a reality TV show, the battle backfires into a major civilian tragedy. In the wake of that catastrophe, Congress proposes the Super Hero Registration Act, a law that requires all heroes to register with the government—or be hunted down as criminals.

This immediately forces Marvel heroes into two camps—those who are willing to obey the law—led by Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic and Yellowjacket—and those who believe it violates their civil rights and refuse to obey—led by Captain America and Wolverine.

During Civil War, years-old friendships are tested, stretched and even destroyed. Heroes regularly come to blows, alliances are made and broken, more than one secret is revealed, and the Marvel Universe will never be the same.
