Marvel Comics - Luke Cage, Hero For Hire - No. 1, June 1972

Selling off some of my childhood collection. This is one of many I have of of Luke Cage through his various incarnations. Besides being the "Sensational Origin Issue," this is a classic comic because it is the first African American superhero with his own comic in the Marvel Comics universe. The character is now expected to become a movie.

According to wikipedia: Cage was one of the first African American superheroes to star in an eponymous comic book series. (The firstAfrican American character to do so was Dell Comics' western hero Lobo.)

Subsequently, Cage was featured in the Brian Michael Bendis-written series Alias, Secret War, The Pulse, Daredevil, and New Avengers.

In 2010, Cage became the leader of the Heroic Age era Thunderbolts, which was formed in the aftermath of Siege, appearing as a regular character since issue #144,[2] and continued as leader of the team when the title transitioned into Dark Avengers beginning with issue #175. Cage also reappeared as a regular character in the second volume ofNew Avengers series.[3]

A disclaimer - this is pulled from my parents attic where I put them long ago and has not been professionally graded, so I will tell you what I can. I have posted a lot of photos to try to detail it - no missing pages, no rips or tears that I can find. This is a clean copy of a 41-year-old comic.   It was in a box among my other sports magazines, yearbooks, programs and comics. So it is flat and untouched for a long, long time. It's now stored in a bag with acid-free board backing and I ship with hard cardboard on both sides inside a bubble envelope. I've tried to include a lot of photos - If there are any collector issues I can answer I will gladly try.

Shipping (domestic): We are always happy to combine shipping when possible. Just a note about priority shipping versus parcel post - most of you know this - but for those who do not - priority usually takes about 2 to 3 days to arrive - but this is not guaranteed. Parcel post can sometimes take as long as 10 days (or more) - generally depending on how far the package is going. Just want to make sure you know what to expect when deciding between the two. Additionally, media can take two weeks to arrive - not always - but it can happen!

Shipping to Italy: Due to Italy's extensive restrictions on what can be shipped into Italy we prefer not to ship to Italy. BUT we will. We truly apologize - but we are afraid to risk your items being lost or detroyed as we would both lose money. So, if our auction is for a toy or doll or anything else that is prohibited you are bidding at your own risk. We will send to Italy but if anything happens to your package we will not reimburse. I am hesitant to even do that but I hate to leave out an entire country of great people due to their postal regulations. So, again, if you win an item that is on the prohibited list - it is at your own risk!!! Here is the website that details prohibited items:http://pe.usps.gov/text/imm/il_008.htm#ep1391182.

Combined Shipping - higher rates!: With the current postal rates I just wanted to warn you that, both domestically and internationally, the bigger the package, the greater the chance that it will jump to a higher shipping mode. So, that said, I will always combine on shipping but it is not always a big saver. One item that can be shipped first class internationally at a lower rate may jump up in price considerably if it is paired with another item in a larger box as it is then required for it to be shipped priority. Similar for domestic shipping - they are now measuring boxes and if they are bigger - or going coast to coast or the like - the rates increase. So, just an FYI - don't want anyone to be surprised if they decide to combine and the rate jumps a lot! If you have won an auction and intend to bid on other current auctions, by all means, please feel welcome to hold off on paying so that you can combine on shipping should you win the other auction(s). We don't always catch it when someone is still bidding so feel free to let us know so that we don't ship too soon! We are happy to wait so that you can save on shipping charges!

Shipping (international - outside the USA): Shipping outside of the USA is usually considerably higher especially with larger and/or heavier packages. We always intend to ship actual rates - please also keep your country's custom fees and red tape in mind. International packages are marked as merchandise (I know that matters in some countries so, wanted you to be aware) If this is not OK, please do not bid. Apologies but we can not mark the package GIFT. When applicable, we will happily mark it as used dolls or toys if that helps. The calculator above can also give international shipping rates. Also, packages shipped first class can not be tracked according to the post office. If you want tracking, chances are you have to pay a higher shipping rate and ship express or priority. Also, keep in mind that insurance amounts must match package value. Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as ‘gifts’ - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.”

Shipping Misc: We always intend to charge actual shipping rates - we never intend to profit on shipping! If ever the amount paid is incorrectly calculated with the buyer paying too much we always refund! That said, sometimes we do not realize this has occurred if we are mailing a lot of packages at once - please always feel welcome to let us know if you have been overcharged - we will be more than happy to refund any change!

Feedback: We always leave feedback on completion of a transaction - OK, sometimes we don't do it as quickly as we like -but we do do it! Please kindly let us know when you receive your purchase and if all is well - or, if need be, to reconcile any issues. If for any reason you are not pleased, be sure to let us know as it is important to us that you be satisfied with your purchase! Also, we reserve the right to cancel bids on auctions from ebayers who either have a high percentage of negative feedback, who LEAVE a high percentage of negative feedback, or who have given us reason to not want to work with them (that includes grumpy, rude, obnoxious, overly demanding people!).

Returns: If we have misrepresented any item(s) and the buyer is not pleased and, unless the auction states otherwise, we are happy to offer returns/refunds under reasonable circumstances but must be notified within 10 days after we inform the buyer the item has shipped. Please note that at times an item(s) will be offered As Is with no returns - which means, of course, that we, in those instances, we do not offer returns. So, please keep this in mind if bidding on any of our auctions that are noted as such.

Buy it Now: Unless an auction is listed as a Buy It Now auction, we will not end an auction for a BIN offer. So, unless you have some outrageously high offer to make on an auction item, please don't ask us to end an auction early. We consider it unfair to those who are watching an auction and tend to bid later to end an auction early.

We are not Pet-Free! - And probably never will be! That said, we wholly respect your not wanting to bid if you are at all sensitive to anything pets-related. There is always the chance that you will find some animal fur in your package - at no additional charge to you. We absolutely try to make sure this does not happen - but, as anyone with pets knows - pet fur has a mind and drive of its own and will sneak in when no one is looking. So, again, if this is an issue for you - and we can certainly respect this! - please do not bid for your sake and ours.

Late Payment: If payment is not received 10 days from auction end, we reserve the right to relist the item, file a nonpaying bidder report and leave appropriate feedback. If you can not pay within that time frame but do intend to pay - that is fine as long as you let us know and we make alternate arrangements - but, you have to communicate with us so we know!

Postal Carrier: We use the United States Post Services - only. If you would like us to use another carrier - and if we agree, there will be an additional $10 surcharge on top of all actual shipping charges.

Breaking Up a Lot: If you win a large lot and wish to save on shipping by not taking all of the items - that is fine, we can likely work something out. But, the final bid price will remain the same and the shipping reduction is based on actual postal charges - there is not a discount for not taking all items. Thanks again for your interest!
