Lou Fine with Will Eisner The Spirit Sunday Comics Supplement Splash Original Art dated 9-19-43 (Register & Tribune, 1943). From the Eisner Studio's original newspaper-supplement presentation for the Register & Tribune Syndicate, doing double duty as a Quality Comics reprint. This one, billed as "Stormy Weather" for Quality's Spirit #3 (1945), had first appeared on 9-19-43. (Quality added the "Spirit" and "Page 41" headers, stapled in place.) Eisner's personal touch is evident in the fedoras worn by the Spirit and Commissioner Dolan: "Lou Fine was a master, and very much attuned to what I was doing," Eisner told us during the 1990s, "but I always had to redraw or retouch his hats. He never could make a hat sit right on the head." The rainy-night setting is a constant among the Spirit stories: Eisner's contemporary Harvey Kurtzman called the technique "Eisenshpritz." Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with knife-blade scratching for white highlights. The image area measures 11.5" x 16 .5". Light toning and small marginal stains; otherwise, in Excellent condition.

payments via eCheck, personal or corporate checks. All others will be subject to a hold of 5

Shipping:
