Good Lord! What's this, the EC-Fanatic actually selling off an EC collectable? That's right boils and ghouls, I'm selling off some of the rarer items from my EC collection that I've accumulated over the years to raise some much needed cash. You are bidding on EC artist Johnny Craig's personal copy of the Spirit Section which is dated Sunday, December 12, 1948 and is from the Newark, New Jersey newspaper The Star Ledger. I purchased this back in 2009 from the long time EC historian, collector and friend of Johnny Craig, Roger Hill (eBay ID kidkameron) and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by him. This week we are proud to start a series of auctions for items from the COLLECTION OF JOHNNY CRAIG. Here’s a copy of the SPIRIT SECTION dated December 12, 1948, from the Newark, New Jersey, STAR LEDGER newspaper. This Sunday section is complete with 8 pages intact and was part of Johnny Craig’s personal collection of comics. Johnny was a big fan of Will Eisner and followed the SPIRIT newspaper sections for many years.

I'm not an expert at grading comics but I've been at it long enough to know the difference between what's fair and not. I'm calling this section a FINE condition based on the Overstreet standards of grading. This book has been stored flat for a long time in an environmentally controlled climate for over 50 years. A little bit of age discoloration is present around the edges, but overall, paper is very supple. A few corners are rounded a little bit at bottom right. A small light stain spot of some kind is present in lower border area of last page featuring “Jonesy.”
