Jim Aparo Detective Comics #496 Batman Cover Original Art (DC, 1980). Jim Aparo has produced well over 300 covers for DC Comics over the years. Yet surprisingly, Heritage has only sold 7 of his covers previously, and only 5 of those were DC covers! That makes this pretty rare and desirable. This cover layout is slightly different from the published book because DC decided to switch away from the "Dollar Comics" format with this issue on very short notice. So short, in fact, that editor Paul Levitz included a text piece in the issue titled "Dept. of Oops" to explain it. What we have here is the original cover layout before the switch. The cover art was still used (slightly cropped at the top), and the original art Batgirl image stayed, as she had the backup tale. However, Robin and Black Lighting got the boot, so their original art head-shots never appeared (sorry guys). If you are a fan of Jim Aparo's long-eared Batman, this is a great image of him in action against Clayface! Produced in ink over graphite on Sparta Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Text is stat paste-up. In Excellent condition.
