Description

I am listing for sale a copy of Fantastic Four #1which features the second appearance of the Fantastic Four with no reserve and a VERY REASONABLE Buy it Now price!.  This book is an important key of the Silver Age and would almost certainly be given a blue label universal (unrestored) grade of a 1.0 with cream to off white pages if you must entomb it as no restoration of any kind has been performed on it.  This book was freed from its tomb by me so I can certify it is unrestored.  I have recently upgraded my key Silver age Marvel reader copies and thus, am offering my lesser grade examples in the hopes that they can become the reader copies to another collector rather than needlessly entombing them.  Save that for your higher grade copies.  There is nothing like holding an actual copy in your hand versus reading a reprint.  You don't often see COMPLETE, unrestored, RAW copies that are still reasonably affordable and this book will make a great investment and/or addition to your collection.  Please note, not every single defect is listed; however, I have highlighted key defects that fall within the assigned grade.

The Good:  It's an Fantastic Four #1!  All the interior pages are there (Most low grade copies are missing the ad page, outer wrap or centerfold) as well as the front and back covers.  Pages are cream to off white and  supple. Could very well be the best opportunity you will have to obtain a good reading copy at a relatively reasonable price.  Did I mention it's an Amazing Spider-Man #1?  :)

The Bad:  The staples are rusty.  There is tape on the cover.  Pages 14-17 are detached at both the top and bottom staples.

The Ugly:  The back cover is completely split from the front and is attached with two small pieces of tape.

Some notes on CGC grading and grading in general...

CGC does not consider tape to be restoration.  Essentially, the tape is ignored and the book is graded as thought the tape were not present.

CGC does not consider the use of facsimile covers/pages or pieces of facsimile covers/pages as restoration provided they are attached with tape (If they are unattached they will not be encapsulated and they will be returned to you).

CGC does not give a book a designation of NG (No Grade) as long as one of the covers are present.  Comics missing either the front cover OR the back cover are a .5 poor.

CGC defines an incomplete comic as one missing a part of the comic interior only (It does not refer to whether or not the covers are present).

CGC does not currently adhere to the revised 2015 Overstreet grading guidelines that are now used by CBCS and PGX in which coverless complete comics or complete cover missing the interior receive a grade of .3 and incomplete coverless books, front OR back covers only or single pages receive a grade of .1.

Unlike most sellers on here, I do not cop out on grading raw books and I do not defer customers to look at the pictures and decide the grade for themselves.  What kind of nonsense is that?  No reasonable person should expect anyone to be able to accurately grade a book with just pictures...particularly, if no description of the book is provided.  If pictures alone were the tell all when determining a comic book's grade, we would be able to send photos of books to CGC to have them graded, right?  I have a solid history of grading  books on here as well as virtually every one of my CGC submission as having come back either the same or higher than I had the grade/page quality figured at.  In 2014 I successfully lobbied my case to CGC on why my 9.6 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1first printing should have been graded at a 9.8 resulting in them changing the grade to what became the 12th example of a TMNT #1 first print being graded a CGC Universal 9.8 with white pages.

This book will be enclosed in a 2 mil Gerber Mylite with a Gerber half back sealed with acid free tape inserted into a 4 mil Gerber Mylar with a full back along with either the premium copper Life Extenders from Bill Cole Enterprises or the thinner paper kind that CGC uses.  All my books are stored in acid free boxes and in a climate/humidity controlled room that is smoke and pet free.

I CAREFULLY SHIP ALL BOOKS WHETHER YOU PAY $1.00 OR $10,000 FOR IT.  I WANT YOU TO RECEIVE YOUR ITEM IN THE EXACT SAME CONDITION THAT IT WAS LISTED IN.  THAT MEANS IT WILL BE CAREFULLY WRAPPED AND SHIPPED IN A BOX.  I NEVER USE ENVELOPES.  EVERY BOOK I SELL WILL BE FULLY INSURED FOR ITS FAIR MARKET VALUE AS WELL AS HAVING TRACKING AND SIGNATURE CONFORMATION IF PURCHASE PRICE IS ABOVE $50.00!  PERSONALLY, I WOULD NOT WANT TO RISK SOMETHING BAD HAPPENING WITH AN EXPENSIVE COMIC BOOK PURCHASE JUST TO TRY AND SAVE A FEW BUCKS ON SHIPPING.

I would like to politely ask that if you take any sort of issue with a auction starting price, buy it now price, etc...that you kindly keep your opinions to yourself.  Overstreet price guides and GPAnalysis are useful guides ONLY!  Please don't waste either of or time trying to convince me what I should list a book for.  I consider that to be harassment and so does Ebay.  At my discretion I will list a book with a buy it now or best offer.

While I normally have a 14 day return policy on all raw books I sell, due to the fragile nature of low grade reading copies and the likelihood of damage occurring to the book if improperly handled, I am unable to offer returns on this particular listing.  No partial refunds and no returns on 3rd part graded books.   In the unlikely event that I missed restoration or grossly misrepresented an item's condition, just contact me and I will make a good faith effort to resolve the problem.   I am a reasonable person and I want my customers to be happy.  Good luck and happy bidding!
