Original Charles M Schulz "Peanuts" Comic Art
Appearing in Peanuts for the very first time in 1954, Pig Pen is one of cartoon history's most famous and beloved of non-conformists. Literally living in a cloud of dust and without a real name, Pig Pen reminds us of someone we know…and sometimes even ourselves. His earthy philosophy is perhaps best expressed in this single weekly strip also featuring Charlie Brown. This strip is a unique, one-of-a-kind original; it was hand-drawn by Schulz himself. It is signed and marked with its date of publication:
The cartoon is sold in "as is" condition. Most cartoonists never thought of themselves as fine artists and often took few pains to keep, let alone care for, their original drawings. The drawings were a means to an end: a newspaper publication, and often they ended up tossed out, thrown into loose files, or stacks on top of desks. This particular strip was folded neatly in two by Charles Schulz and kept in a drawer for nearly 30 years before he retrieved it for an exhibit at the Jane Haslem Gallery, Washington, DC. Even so, the cartoon is in very good shape, with very little damage. It has been framed in an acid-free mat since purchase from the Gallery in 1982. Measures 28 3/4" x 6 3/4".
