The Color Cover Art Of A Famous Batman Cover!

This Auction Includes:
BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDER #14 Original Hand-Colored Cover Art THE ORIGINAL COVER PAINTING FROM 1984, --NOT SOMETHING USED TO MAKE SOME GRAPHIC NOVEL OR TPB OR ANY OTHER SUCH REPRINTING OR REPRODUCTION!     A CLASSIC IMAGE WITH BATMAN AND  BLACK LIGHTNING AND THE OTHERS BURNING IN A GIANT OLYMPIC TORCH, FEELING THE WRATH OF ZEUS!  THE PENCILS ARE BY JIM APARO, ONE OF THE TOP ARTISTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DARK KNIGHT.  IT INCLUDES THE CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY THAT CAME WITH IT WHEN I BOUGHT IT A COUPLE DECADES AGO.    NOTE THE INCREDIBLE ATTENTION TO DETAIL WITH THE PAINT WORK, BY ANTHONY TOLLIN, A TALENTED LONG-TERM COLORIST FOR DC COMICS; AND MR. TOLLIN HAS AUTOGRAPHED IT, IN METALLIC GOLD, AT THE LOWER RIGHT EDGE.   AWESOME PIECE, EVEN METAMORPHO MELTS AND ELONGATES IN THE INTENSE OLYMPIC FLAME!   Jim Aparo, during his peak period, on this epic cover for the famous MINI-SERIES, BATMAN And The OUTSIDERS, ~this is one of the most iconic heroes, ever!   This stunner would be ideal to frame and hang on a wall, shelf, or desk; A conversation piece of the highest order.  (You could display it alongside the normal mass-produced image, by obtaining a copy of the old 1984 Summer Olympics related comic book to display along with it!)      The  incredible attention to detail in the paint work becomes apparent when it's viewed in person.  The color contrasts and eye-popping scenario really make this piece stand out!   Awesome skill, and effort applied.  A mere color guide would often just have enough of the color, splashed in a haphazard fashion in a particular area, to show the printer what color to use where.  This has paint work that looks as if it belongs in a museum!  Check out the various hues, plus the logo and the costumes of the bad guy and iconic top superhero and carnage and landscape, all attentively and meticulously kept within the intricate lines, which makes the published version look bland and flat by comparison.  At the very bottom of this description, I included a picture of myself and Anthony Tollin's predecessor, Jack Adler, admiring one of his cover paintings for DC Comics.   This cover was lavishly colored by Anthony Tollin, as part of the original production process during his long tenure at DC, creating this impressive painting.  This actual item was reviewed and accepted under contract with D.C. Comics for use in early 1984 to produce the front cover to the popular Batman comic-book.  This gorgeous painting looks even more awesome than the famous comic cover that got published back three decades ago...  It is quite striking!  This would be a great addition to any collection of comic-art or Dark Knight-ephemera or unique Olympics items, or just for the DC comic fan's collection... --'Nuff said!   Many of you have dealt with us over the years via our ads in C.B.M. and/or C.B.G. or OPG...
(Comic Book Marketplace or Comics Buyer's Guide or Wizard, etc.)   We are secure packagers and prompt shippers so expect to be pleased.     Back in the "good ole days", DC normally burned or discarded such production art once the comic went to print.  So it's lucky when one still survives for posterity!    This is the actual Hand-Colored Cover Art for the fan-favorite comic. It was painted in mixed media, over a stat of the original line art, using what appears to be mainly watercolors and perhaps some acrylic paint;  This was of course done under contract for DC back in the eighties, not a modern recreation.  Only one such showpiece was created per cover.   Buy aggressively, as such items are truly one-of-a-kind, and bronze age DC production pieces as a whole are notoriously rare.   A Certificate Of Authenticity is included. Hand-colored Vintage Published DC Covers are exceedingly rare in the market, and very impressive, as you can see brushstrokes and color variations, in some cases desired by the creator, which never make it to the final product...  Because they were part of the original raw artistic process, they can include tack-holes, pasteovers, tape, indentations from a paper clip, staple-holes, white-out, and/or edge wear. However, this one somehow avoided significant problems.  Really, this beauty must be seen in person to be appreciated.  For more information, please see the informative color feature article on the comic production process in the September issue of Comic Book Marketplace magazine from 2001.  This irreplaceable item is just as rare as the blander black & white twice-up art, which would command five figure$ in today's red-hot art market... ~ Buy It Now!   Fabulous eye-appeal: High-quality thin "copyproof" art paper was used. Bone-white whites and nice rich colors! This is a must-have piece for any fan of ultra-rare DC original art, or for the cover art collector, or the serious Black Lightning or Dark Knight buff or Aparo fan who enjoys owning true rarities ~ to keep himself satisfied visually, while keeping his portfolio diversified in a most dramatic fashion!   As Usual: LOW ASKING PRICE AND NO RESERVE!
