You are buying a DC Comics Batman Comics Issue #11 Comic Book certified and graded by CBCS as being 5.0 CHECK. Book was released in 1942. Very nice looking book. This book, in our opinion is completely graded incorrectly. We have had an ongoing discussion with CBCS on what exactly a check mark above the graded means and they are not forthcoming. Batman #11 is a classic vintage Batman comic and is over 74 years old.
Being in the comic business for over 25 years we have an opinion as what a book is about and what condition it is in. However, a certified grade and a slab does accomplish at least 2 main things. The first is that the book is certified by experts (CBCS) to be genuine and slabbing the book protects the book and slows way down aging process. Beyond that we also know that the book is complete and the interior pages are white and all there. Objectively the book may be in fact a 5.0 but we do not the objective standard by which CBCS uses and we have asked many times and again we have not gotten any answers. In contrast we have also listed a Timely Marvel Mystery comics #70 (eBay item number:361731751761) which is graded 8.0.
Subjectively, that is looking at the actual book , this book merits a much higher grade as it is an amazing looking book. For us, the most important priority for a book to be collectible is what the book looks like and the most important standard to measure is the cover. The cover of the book is not a "5" nor the back. The front cover in terms of completeness, color, sharpness, corner and spline as well as the back cover is in our opinion a 8+. I really do not know what has to happen to the interior to bring a book down to a 5. However, we have included many pics so you can look at this great collectible and form an opinion yourself.
