Description

Up for your consideration are 46 Spirit comic inserts from the Sunday edition of the Philadelphia Record newspaper. Serious comic fans know Will Eisner as one of the great comic book artists.
The years are 1940, 1941, 1942 and 1943. As you can see from the document I've attached, the collection does not feature the inserts from every Sunday for those years.
These were collected by my mother as a teenager when she lived in the Philadelphia area during the early 1940's. They were kept by her over the years as she moved to different homes, got married, had her kids, etc. Needless to say, they were not hermetically sealed in an airtight container!
I have attached pictures that show examples what I consider to be "good" and "not so good" condition. The inserts are rather fragile, which is to be expected for their age (74 + years). Please expect that many of the inserts will  have rips and creases. These would typically be at the edges of the inserts. I have not noticed any stains from liquid, etc. There are some that show what appears to be Scotch tape applied for rip repair. I've uploaded an image of one insert with a section missing from the front page.

There are a couple of "orphan" pages that came loose years ago, and I will enclose them in the shipment.
I'm being as honest and realistic as I can. If you're looking for pristine, mint condition comics, this is not the place!
I'm still impressed that after all these years the colors are quite vibrant for their age.
The entire collection is up for bidding. Please, no requests for less than the entire collection. I will do my best to answer questions you may have, so please contact me at the email shown.
The initial bid will be $150.00. That's a little over $3.00 for each insert.

Thank you for bidding.
