Description

Time magazine from March 11, 1940, with an unexciting cover of the SEC's Jerome Frank.
The excitement is inside this issue -
-SUPERMAN ENDS WORLD WAR 2 - Superman was less than 2 years old when this news item appeared, which reprints 2 days of the Superman newspaper strip. In the comics, Superman talks warring countries into ending the world war. Which in real life caused the Toronto Star newspaper in Canada to drop the Superman strip for a bit from its comics pages, as the paper found that "this reduction of a life and death struggle to the absurdity of a comic strip  is no joke..."
-HATTIE MCDANIEL WINS THE OSCAR - Short article on the Oscar winners announced the previous week include a photo of  Oscar winner Hattie McDaniel, with caption under it: First of her race.  The article also mentions "McDaniel was the first Negro to receive the prize."
-SEABISCUIT WINS THE TRIPLE CROWN - News article, with photo of Seabiscuit, recounts how the champion horse had won the key race the previous week, netting him the Triple Crown. Seabiscuit is referred to as "darling of U.S. racing fans, Cinderella of the Turf."
There are also some colorful car ads this issue, and a Southern Pacific railroad ad promoting the San Francisco World's Fair.  Plus lots of news!
In good to very good condition. Pages are really nice, and white. Front cover has some color fade on the edges. Spine has a 2" piece of magic tape along bottom.
