Description

For auction is a group of 160 original Sunday newspaper inserts of The Spirit by Will Eisner.  The dates included are July 7, 1940 through June 27, 1943 with the exception of the following dates: Jan. 19, 1941, June 1 and June 8, 1941, and August 24, 1941.  Also included are September 12 and 19, 1943, October 24 and 31, 1943, and Nov. 7, 14, 21, and 28, 1943.  The first five issues are in a separate auction.
Condition:July 7, 1940 through March 23, 1941 have 2 holes from being stored in a binder.  They also have a number at the top of the front page in pencil.Aug 11, 1940 has several 1 inch tears on the front page.March 30, 1941 through Jan 23, 1942 (with the exception of Dec. 21 and Dec. 28, 1941)are in a bound book.  They also have two holes punched in them.  Some of the paper was trimmed off the top, bottom and side --maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch.  It does not affect the print to my knowledge.  Only March 30 and April 6 in this group have pencil numbers.  The rest do not have numbersCoffee stains(?) on 4/13/41 and 11/15/42.  pencil "doodle" on 6/29/41 and 4/11/43. tears to paper on 7/5/42 and 9/27/425.  The June 6, 1943 issue has 1/2 of the back page torn off.  Finally, there was a change in format for the insert beginning June 13, 1943..  Other comic strips were in the insert -- for example Mutt and Jeff.I did not go through every page of the 160 issues.  There could very well be some other condition issues so please do not hold me to this list.  I have done my best to give you a "heads up" on what you are bidding on.  The overwhelming majority of the issues are in what I would consider good condition considering they are 70 plus years old and are on newspaper stock.
