Description

Mickey Mouse Statue(Somewhere in Europe - Circa early 1930's)An extreme Rarity
This could be a one of a kind item, as I have heard of the rare brass figure but never one like this, which is extremely heavy for its size. Which has led to all kinds of ideas and possible histories, as it is heavier than any other DEPOSE Mickey bank ever discovered.
• 1st off, it is solid golden under the paint, even when you examine inside the coin slot with a light and magnifier.Because of the extreme weight for its size this led me and others to think that it might be actual gold, so I had it tested. It seemed to pass the 10 gold test but not the 14k. This could mean that it could be an alloy mixture of lower grade gold but I do not know how to figure that.
• It is more crudely painted than other Mickey Depose banks I have seen but that could have been done to hide what it really could possibly be. And there is no way this was a child's toy, as it is just way too heavy and could not be lifted by a child and could injure them if it fell over on them.
• Some have speculated that it could be a door stop, which is why it is so heavy. But that could not make sense unless it was made out of a low grade metal like Iron or lead, which it is not. And it is far too heavy to be brass.Someone suggested it could be bronze but again the weight is really heavy and there is no record of a bronze statue being made. So could it be a unique prototype of some kind?
• Finally, all Depose Mickey banks have concave ears on the backside and also at the bottom of the feet, which is where the metal was stamped and identified the manufacturer or distributor in some way. The ears and feet are both solid on this one, and again, under the paint is very shiny golden metal.
• Of all the Depose French banks discovered the weight ranges based on the metal used to create it.* Aluminum - About 1.5 pounds* Brass - Just about 4 pounds (Bronze would weigh about the same)* Cast Iron - About 3.5 pounds* Lead would be the heaviest (about 5 pounds) but that is a soft grey metal and easily identified.
** So with all this in mind, what in the world is my bank made out if? As it is over 5 1/2 pounds
After many years I still don't know what it is, so the mystery continues.....
* If there is a sharp ebay'er out there who knows what this is, I would be grateful for the information and will correct it
