Large Size, 11 1/2 X 17 1/2 Inch (Art Area) Jack Kirby Fantastic Four #1 Cover Recreation Featuring The 1st Appearence Of The Fantastic Four, Inked By Angel Gabriele. One Of Angel's FF # 1 Recreations recently sold via another World Class Auction Site, known for selling Comic Art, for Hundreds of dollars. His classic early Marvel cover recreations are becoming more and more "In Demand".
Image uses ink, brush & pen on quality bristol board,The original published cover is currently believed to be inked by George Klein, and this was recreated in pencil from a Xerox of the Jack Kirby/George Klein art, then inked by Angel. The logo is hand drawn on the art, but the cover copy is paste ups . The published cover had an additional 2 figures added into the crowd, one being a policeman, somewhere in the printing process...this was based on the cover that appears in several of the "Collected" editions of Fantastic Four. This art stands on it's own as a beautiful illustration inked by Angel, and a must, for the FF collector.
This recreation is from a Kirby Xerox drawing, inked with superior linework. The digital image does NOT do this original justice. Illustration is suitable for framing! ( photos are shot at slight up angle to avoid glare.)
At the request of longtime Kirby family friend David Schwartz, and to avoid questionable sales by less than reputable dealers, all Angel's Jack Kirby recreation work states in archival ink, on the back, that they are a recreation by Angel. These originals are done as inking sample and from Angel's portfolio, as he recreated several of each, of many classic Marvel & DC covers, as a means of testing himself, looking to different approaches for work. This was done sometime in the late 90's and is listed here for the 1st time, as Angel is trying to raise cash for unexpected costs, and has had to limit his commission output greatly due to recent health issues. He is selling assorted pieces from his collection.This one hung in his Living room.

In Angel's 30 Years in the Biz he's worked For Marvel, DC, Independents, learned from the late Kelly Freas, worked with Rich Buckler, Mark Texiera, Denys Cowan ( When you find Gabe or Angel hidden in a Cowan story between 1988-1995, It's one he worked on). In the early 90's, his Indiana based studio co-designed the Milestone universe and did the bible art for others to follow. He started in 1971 learning basics from Kelly Freas in his Virgina Beach Studio, he went to work for Rich Buckler in NYC in 1974, helping with his "Kirby " stuff, and other work, some credited, some ghosted. His 1st credited work for DC was Kobra #4 in 1976, his last credited work for DC was Hardware #36 , so he's spanned over 30 years!. He inked the "Frank" comics over Denys Cowan for Nemisis, inked Static #17, Long Hot Summer #3, Drew the covers to DC's Impact line, The Web 6, 7, 8,. Also did Some comics for bankrupt Boneyard, and you can see some of the covers, and more examples at the website.
