Description

This page of original art by Steve Ditko comes from a story entitled "The Shoemaker's Strange Assistants" which appeared in STRANGE TALES # 113.  It was inked by George Roussos.
I might be wrong in thinking this, but I believe that this story was the very last original fantasy tale that Ditko drew for Marvel Comics.  It was published in the last issue of STRANGE TALES to feature any fantasy, horror, or science-fiction story as a back-up to The Human Torch's solo adventures.  Beginning in the very next issue, the Dr. Strange series started running on a continuous basis.  To the best of my knowledge, no other original similar type story by Ditko was published by Marvel Comics after this one.
Scans show the reverse side of this page.  I very carefully removed a small piece of tape that had been affixed to the upper left edge of the back and, much to my surprise, I uncovered what appears to be Steve Ditko's signature written in pencil!  I cannot state with 100% certainty that this is, indeed, the artist's signature, and I am not a handwriting expert, but the signature looks authentic to me.  I have included scans which show verified examples of Ditko's signature for comparison.  Examine them closely and make your own determination.
The page itself is in very good condition, as seen in the scans, with average signs of handling; none distract from the visuals.  The front side is clean, but the back side does show tape marks and some numbers.  The page measures approximately 13 5/8" x 20."
If you are looking at this listing, you well know the value of anything drawn by Steve Ditko, most especially work done for Marvel Comics during the early 1960s.  Here is an opportunity to get a "Sturdy Steve" original at a comparatively modest cost.  Decide for yourself if you think the name on the back truly is the artist's signature and, if so, how much value this adds to the page.
This page will be carefully packaged and shipped via USPS Priority Mail, insured, and with a signature of receipt required upon delivery.
