John Buscema and Vince Colletta Avengers #45 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1967). The Super-Adaptoid strikes on this cover for the story "Blitzkrieg in Central Park!" It features a passel of Avengers... Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, Giant Man and the Wasp, Hawkeye, Captain America, and Hercules. If you count the Avengers represented by the power-copying android, you also get Iron Man. Having only recently evolved into the Super-Adaptoid, this version of the villain had only appeared twice before this (in Tales of Suspense #84 and X-Men #29). An impressive and iconic twice-up cover produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board. There are several elements and layers on this cover, including the stat logo/corner box paste-up, and the hand-lettered title box at the bottom. At the time of creation, the Adaptoid's head was slit at the edges to allow the logo to slide behind it. Some of the logo/corner box stat is held on with tape, and there's a rip in Quicksilver's face. The 13.5" x 20 .25" image area is affixed to a larger Curtiss Way cover format Bristol board. This Bristol backing has a rip in the top and right margins, and a staple in the top left. There is light toning overall, otherwise, in Very Good condition. Matted to approximately 20" x 27".
