Description

Pen & ink cartoon panel original art by BOB KANE (Batman creator) featuring Mickey Mouse! 8.5x11", EX condition. Man at door says "Exterminator?" while the door of the Disney Studios is opened by an animator while Mickey Mouse looks on. This could well be the ONLY time Kane ever drew Mickey Mouse! Early 1930s when Kane was trying to get a foothold in the cartoon business. The panel is boldly signed "R. Kane" with the little slash mark he added after or under his name. There is a small stamp under his name "Member The Cartoonists Guild". This lot was sold by Bonhams in 2005 (lot 3246 of sale 13844) but it did not sell (I assume Jerry bought it post-sale). However, the Bonhams description does not elaborate on the identity of the artist. I have seen enough Bob Kane signatures to say this is a Kane original! Let us consider this cartoon a Batman precursor. Mickey Mouse to Die Fledermaus to a bat to Batman! Ta-dah!

From the estate of my dear friend Jerry Weist (1949-2011)

I am proud to be able to help out Jerry's family by selling part of his massive collection over the next few months (OK, that's not true. It will be over the next few years! There is SO much wonderful stuff). Those of you familiar with Jerry know that condition was very important to him, as was having SIGNED books, so look for lots of high grade material in my auctions for the forseeable future.

Look for the 3rd edition of his Comic Art Price guide, out now.

Priced to sell with NO RESERVE! All items shipped USPS Priority Mail in the USA. Will combine shipping on multiple lots!
