The Green Lantern was one of the first heroes to get redesigned for a new generation of readers in Showcase #22 and his success soon lead to his own long-running series. The origin of the Silver-Age Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, is retold in Green Lantern # 1 and the Guardians of the Universe, the guiding force behind the Green Lantern Corps, make their first appearance in this premiere issue.

Despite the iconic stature of DC’s roster of heroes, just two – Superman and Batman – have had major motion pictures based on their adventures. Superman and Batman are among the most successful action film franchises in history, so it is no surprise that the anticipation for the upcoming Green Lantern movie is so great.
